What Is Paint Protection Film (PPF)?

Paint Protection Film (PPF), also known as clear bra, is a transparent thermoplastic polyurethane film designed to protect your vehicle’s paint from stone chips, scratches, road debris, and UV damage. Modern PPF features a self-healing top layer that allows light marks to disappear with heat, helping maintain a flawless finish. How Paint Protection Film Works Paint Protection Film is manufactured from thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), a flexible, impact-resistant polymer engineered to absorb stone chips and resist abrasion. The “thermoplastic” property allows the material to soften and conform during installation, enabling precise wrapping around complex curves and edges. Once applied, the film re-stabilises and maintains long-term durability. The top layer of modern PPF contains elastomeric properties that allow minor scratches and swirl marks to self-heal when exposed to heat from the sun or warm water. In environments like Cape Town, where vehicles face strong UV exposure, coastal air, highway debris and gravel roads, professionally installed PPF offers one of the most effective long-term paint protection solutions available.

PPF Frequently Asked Questions

Can PPF be applied to a brand new vehicle

Yes. In fact, PPF is best applied as early as possible to protect factory paint from its first damage. Minor preparation may still be required before installation.

Will PPF damage my paint when removed?

No. Quality PPF installed and removed correctly does not damage factory paint. Removal should always be done by a trained installer. However repainted surfaces do risk paint damage if spray painting was done poorly.

How long does PPF last?

Depending on the film and exposure conditions, PPF typically lasts several years and includes manufacturer backed warranties against yellowing, cracking, and failure.
